How To Land Your Next Job
{A snapshot of a sample job tracker}
In May this year, I reviewed a course provided by Google and got to learn about essential aspects in identifying a suitable job.
It elaborates on the importance of identifying industries and companies that are relevant to one's skills and qualifications, creating a compelling CV and cover letter, developing a personal brand, structuring a job search as well as preparing for an interview.
The good thing is that it is customized into 5 sections each with a video lesson (there's an option of reading a transcript or downloading a PDF version), short quizzes to test your understanding as well as a final assessment at the end of the course.
What stood out for me is the essence of tracking jobs applied for in an MS Excel spreadsheet or Google Sheets by highlighting things like the names of the companies applied to, their contact details, the date applied, when to follow up and what the current status is—“ongoing”, “waiting for a reply”, and so on.
To sign up, all you need is a Google Account (Gmail account).
NB: There are other courses provided by Google in partnership with other organizations like Coursera, Future Learn, Open Classrooms, Skillshop, Udacity, and The Open University among others.
